BMI View: Although a source of relative stability throughout the global financial crisis, lack of competition and low lending ratios imply Guyana's commercial banking sector will fail to stimulate substantial economic growth in the future. Without a shift towards higher-level manufacturing and service-focussed industries on the near-term horizon, the development of Guyana's banking sector will suffer accordingly.
