Domestic political pressure is building on Ecuador's President Rafael Correa, with Mayor of Guayaquil Jamie Nebot calling for rally of 'protest and resistance' against the president. Nebot's official gripe with the central government is over state funding and taxation levels, although the timing of his rally is significant, as he clearly feels that with the fallout from the recent energy crisis now is the time to publicly challenge Correa. We expect criticism towards the government's interventionist economic policy to grow over the months ahead.
