Paraguayan Foreign Affairs minister Hector Lacognata has stated his concern over the regional security situation. Lacognata said that Paraguay will propose that the issue of US forces in Colombian bases be considered at the Unasur (Union of South American Nations), and also intends to address other possible conflict scenarios such as recent arms shopping by other countries in the region. Paraguay is particularly concerned with events in neighbouring Bolivia, which has signed military agreements with Venezuela and has close contacts with Iran and Russia, both of which are reported to have sent or have promised advisors in military and security
