One of the founders of Bolivia's ruling Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS), Román Loayza, announced on June 16 that he was officially resigning from the party and would stand as a candidate in the December presidential elections. Loayza is expected to announce his candidacy for the pro-indigenous Movimiento de Unidad Social Patriótica (Muspa) over the coming weeks. While Loayza's departure could trigger more dissentions within the ruling party we doubt that this poses a serious threat to President Evo Morales, who we see winning the elections comfortably.
