The outcome of November's gubernatorial elections remains far from certain. Neither the ruling Partido Popular Democrático (PPD), nor the main opposition parties - the pro-statehood Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP) and the pro-independence Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño (PIP) - have managed to forge a sizeable lead ahead of the ballot.
