On July29 the regional electoral court in the opposition region of Santa Cruz announced that it would be presenting an appeal before the constitutional tribunal to suspend the August 10 recall referendum. While we expect the referendum to take place as planned, there have been a number of attempts by the opposition to prevent the vote from going ahead, possibly because opposition prefects feel they will lose their posts. Our political risk ratings are likely to remain under pressure for some time to come, even if the referendum goes ahead
