With the murder rate in Jamaica continuing to rise, Prime Minister Bruce Golding has proposed implementing tougher anti-crime measures. We do not expect to see any new measures provide significant relief any time soon, and caution that Jamaica's business environment and general economic outlook are likely to be held back by the prevalence of violent crime over the medium term.
