A top trade union leader was assassinated at the end of April, piling more pressure on the government to address deepening security concerns across the country. Rosa Fuentes, leader of the Confederación de Trabajadores de Honduras (the country's largest workers union), was killed in El Progreso, with police calling the death politically motivated. The murder of Fuentes could also put DR-CAFTA back into the spotlight, fuelling US concerns over human rights issues and labour market deficiencies in Central America.
