Peruvian government officials have been holding talks with union leaders in an attempt to prevent scheduled mining strikes from taking place. Union leaders have been calling for strikes by mining workers in an effort to put pressure on the government to lift restrictions on profits, which mining companies allocate to mining workers. Union leaders are also calling for reduced working hours (eight hour days from 12), early retirement, and a cap on outsourcing of companies' domestic operations.
