A public opinion poll published in November gave the ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) 40.7% support, almost exactly ten percentage points ahead of the opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) with 30.8%. The poll, carried out by the CASURO agency for the Antigua Sun newspaper two years ahead of the next general elections due in 2009, revealed that a further 15.3% of respondents would not vote at all, and 11.8% would not say what their voting intentions were. UPP Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer performed well in the popularity stakes, with 67% rating his performance between very good and fairly good.
