Chilean President Michelle Bachelet continues to lose favour with the public, as her government remains unable to provide adequate public services despite booming fiscal revenues. The budget surplus is expected to come in at 7.8% of GDP this year, yet public sector pay is still very low and rising inflation is eroding the relative income of the poor. Bachelet's approval rating, according to a September poll, is now 35.3%, down by 3.8 percentage points from August, while her disapproval rating is 46.1% up by 3.4pp in the month.
