On September 21 the Chilean supreme court ruled that the former Peruvian president, Alberto Fujimori, would be extradited to Peru to face human rights and corruption charges. President Alan GarcĂa has commented publicly for the first time on the matter, in an attempt to dispel rumours that his government is planning on cutting a deal with Fujimori's Alianza por el Futuro party in congress, whose alliance is required for the Partido Aprista Peruanoa (Apra) to retain a majority.
