The registration deadline for presidential election candidates on September 9 narrowed the list of contenders to 14, with few surprises. One prominent name, that of former President Carlos Menem, did not make the list - he declined to register following his defeat in a governor's race earlier this year. But the two leading candidates are, of course, on the final ballot. We still believe that Senator Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will easily defeat former Economy Minister Roberto Lavagna in the October 28 election, given her significant double-digit lead in national opinion
