The government has passed the controversial High Court (Amendement) Bill, which gives the chancellor supervisory power over the chief justice as well as give directions of a general or specific nature regarding the distribution of business in the high court. While President Bharrat Jagdeo has been at pains to portray the amendment as a minor, administrative measure, fierce debate in parliament ended with a walk out by the opposition People's National Congress Reform - One Guyana (PNCR-1G) as the bill was passed.
