On June 22 four government-allied lawmakers announced their intention to sever their ties with the Correa administration, a move that would end the government's majority in congress. The Bloque de la Dignidad Nacional (BDN), which replaced many of the 57 congressmen dismissed in March, have grown increasingly disgruntled over President Rafael Correa's handling of the corruption allegations against the Economy Minister Ricardo Patiño. The loss of a majority in congress for the ruling Alianza País could lead to a rise in political tensions ahead of the election of the Constitutional Assembly in September.
