Although President Michelle Bachelet's approval rating has been declining in recent months, the stability of the Chilean government is still intact. Indeed, while Bachelet's approval rating declined to a level of 41.4% in May, the robust re-acceleration in economic activity should help mitigate the perceived failures of the government, which include the inefficient transportation system in Santiago as well as the rise in government-linked corruption allegations. Chile's political scene is much more stable than its regional neighbours, largely because of the homogeneity of the population as well as the country's strong democratic institutions.
