The Colombian peso continues to go from strength to strength, closing at a seven-year high of COP2,039/US$ on May 10, despite BanRep 's endeavours to stem currency appreciation. The central bank had announced a series of measures in April aimed at stabilising the peso, including raising reserve requirements on local banks; restricting foreign-currency borrowing; and reducing the allowable leverage on foreign exchange positions.
