The April 15 referendum on whether to hold a constituent assembly to reform the Ecuadorean constitution passed successfully. This result will be supportive for the government, in our view, and political tensions now may subside. Having said that, the issue regarding the 57 congressmen who were stripped of their congressional posts by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal after a controversial vote, has not yet been resolved and as such, we do not rule out another bout of short term political tension.
