BMI View: Several potential opposition challengers in the presidential race have signalled their intention not to run, seemingly polarising the contest between incumbent Nestor Kirchner (or his wife, Cristina Fernández) and former Economy Minister Roberto Lavagna. The economic environment will remain critical for public support, and despite current concerns over inflation data, whichever Kirchner runs will be favourite to win, meaning no radical changes in government policy direction.
