Conflicting opinion polls have created confusion over the presidential candidates' actual lead in their race for presidential office. Whereas a poll by Datanalisis suggested that Chavez led with 58% of votes, compared to Rosales' 17%, 'El Nacional' featured a poll by Hinterlaces several days later that Rosales' support increased from 7% in June to 30% in September.
