The Dominican Republic National Congress officially welcomed in the new legislative and municipal representatives on August 16, following May's parliamentary elections. President Leonel Fernandez' PLD party had consolidated its majority holding in both the Senate (with 22 out of 32 seats) and the Chamber of Deputies (96 out of 178).
