Honduras has joined El Salvador and Nicaragua in DR-CAFTA, leaving behind Guatemala and Costa Rica, which are still to ratify the trade treaty. The entry of Honduras was heralded in Tegucigalpa with grand fanfare, although there remain doubts over the immediate benefits of the pact, given the high levels of poverty in the country. There is also concern over the loss to Honduras in trade tariffs, estimated at around US$100mn a year.
