Heading into the March 13 Asociación Nacional Republicana (Colorados) internal presidential elections, President Duarte had been informed by the electoral authority that the constitution forbids him from holding a second post - whether public or private, remunerated or not - during his presidency. He could, however, run for the party leadership, they said (though he could not assume the presidency if he won it).
