BMI View: Despite imminent risks to global trade flows Panama still looks set to grow faster than any other country in Latin America and the Caribbean over the next few years, as we forecast the isthmus' real GDP growth to reach a staggering 8.3% in 2011. We believe the growth will be driven by strong investment in the canal's extension as the fixed investment component of the GDP per expenditure is set to come in at a record high PAN5.58bn or 24.7% of GDP. Real GDP growth will remain strong in 2012 as we expect it to come in at 6.9%.
