June 2010 | Macroeconomic ForecastsBMI View: The rebound in Ecuador's economic activity index continued to pick up pace in February, rising 4.8% year-on-year, the fastest rate since early 2008. However, with both private consumption and fixed investment set to contract this year in real terms according to our forecasts (by 0.7% and 4.3% respectively), we believe that the apparent rise in economic activity will go little way to bolstering the country's weak growth outlook. As such, we hold to our forecast for a 2.8% contraction in real GDP this year.
