Fiscal Concerns To Dominate 2010 Election
November 2009 | Risk SummaryCampaigning is set to begin in Suriname after President Ronald Venetiaan set parliamentary and presidential elections for May 25 2010. The elections will see the President's Nieuwe Front voor Democratie en Ontwikkeling party challenged by the main opposition Nationale Democratische Partij (NDP) party, led by the country's former dictator Desi Bouterse. However, with a recent opinion poll by the Institute for Demograpic Research in Suriname indicating that the Nieuwe Front is trailing the main opposition NDP in four major constituencies by an average of 12.5%, it appears to us that the country's current economic difficulties - we are forecasting
