New Cabinet: All Eyes On Monetary Policy

BMI View: While the announcement that Guido Mantega will stay on as finance minister reinforces our view of policy continuity in the fiscal realm, questions still remain regarding the outlook for monetary policy. New central bank president Alexandre Tombini has hawkish credentials, but we will be looking for signs that he is willing to stand up to political pressure to cut rates for reassurance that the BCB's operational independence will be maintained.
