March 2010 | Macroeconomic ForecastsBMI View: Guyana's government has identified the tourism sector as a key area for growth in 2010, with Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad defending increased infrastructure expenditure as necessary to develop key tourist sites. The services sector comprises by far the largest share of Guyana's economy, although in proportion to its population the number of tourists visiting the country falls well short of many other Caribbean destinations. While a rapid uptick in the tourist industry in 2010 may be overly optimistic, we still anticipate the economy to perform relatively well this year, projecting a real GDP growth rate of 3.5%.
