Fiscal Accounts On A Knife Edge
January 2011 | Economic AnalysisBMI View: Barbados remains mired in fiscal challenges, with very weak tax revenues further undermining the government's efforts to return the fiscal accounts to something approaching an even keel. For now, favourable bond yields should stave off a full scale crisis, but with interest payments accounting for over 20% of revenues and the economy still weak, the island faces the spectre of running out of financing options over the medium term.
