Personal Divisions Hamper Policy Agenda

BMI View: Recent public disagreements between President Mauricio Funes and his vice president Salvador Sánchez Cerén over El Salvador's policy towards the Venezuela-led Alba bloc have revealed deep splits within the ruling Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación party. We caution that, if left unaddressed, these divisions, and especially Sánchez Cerén's leftist rhetoric, could begin to deter foreign investors, hampering the country's prospects for economic growth going forward.
