Kirchner Benefits From Divided Opposition
December 2006 | Political Risk AnalysisAccording to polls conducted by Equis in October, Kirchner enjoys a considerable lead over his political opponents. While 57.2% of the interviewees affirmed that they would vote for Kirchner in the next presidential elections, potential opposition candidates, such as Mauricio Macri, Elisa Carrió and Roberto Lavagna, were favoured by only 15.1%, and 9.3% and 8.8% respectively. Kirchner's on going solid popular support is mainly explained by his populist approach to politics and economic policies.
