Costly Trade Spat With US

Francisco Dall'Anese Ruiz, former district attorney for Costa Rica who replaced Carlos Castresana as head of the Comisión Internacional contra la Impunidad en Guatemala (CICIG) on July 28, faces a tough task in building on his predecessor's achievements in tackling entrenched levels of organised crime in the country. Unlike the Spanish Castresana, Dall'Anese has the advantage of being well acquainted with the Central America region, although given the scale of the challenge he is likely to disappoint those who are hoping for a more rapid solution to the chronic crime levels currently blighting the country.
