Fight For The Centre

Peruvian congresswoman and presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori has taken the lead ahead of the presidential election due to be held in April 2011. Opinion poll results show that 22% of likely voters supported Fujimori, while 20% supported Lima Mayor Luis Castañeda and 14% backed former president Alejandro Toledo. Consistent support for centre-right candidates Castañeda and Fujimori, coupled with waning backing for the ultra-nationalist Humala, reinforces our view that Peru's 2011 presidential and parliamentary elections will be fought in the political centre.
