Colombia Cut Off: Diversion From Economic Woes

BMI View: We believe that Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez's recent move to cut diplomatic ties with Colombia is a political tactic to divert attention away from the country's dire economic condition in the run up to September's legislative elections. Although a military conflict cannot be ruled out, we maintain that armed confrontation is highly unlikely.
