Free Floating Currency Unlikely Anytime Soon

BMI View: The exposure of Costa Rica's private banking sector to exchange rate risks from recent US dollar weakness is likely to prevent the country from adopting a freely-floating currency regime anytime soon. This will continue to hamper the monetary authorities' ability to curtail inflationary pressures going forward, which could hurt Costa Rica's longer-term investment potential.
