End Of Embargo Unlikely Amidst Threat Of Filibuster

The prospects of the United States easing its travel and export bans to Cuba inched forward on June 30, when the House Agricultural Committee voted 25-20 in favour of reversing the decades-old embargoes. Known as the 'Travel Restriction Reform and Export Enhancement Act', the bill seeks to effectively end the travel ban to the Communist island for U.S. nationals, allow Cubans to purchase American farm goods with credit, in addition to allowing direct transfers between U.S. and Cuban financial institutions. Speaking after the legislative session, Congressman Colin Peterson (Democrat of Minnesota) said that the bill was a "great opportunity to expand trade".
