It has been suggested by the Colombian media that outgoing President Álvaro Uribe might run for the mayoral office of Bogotá after giving hints at the prospect, maintaining an important position in politics as head of the country's largest city. Although there is a vast cloud of uncertainty surrounding the October 2011 elections, we believe that if Uribe were to be elected mayor, that his centre-right and business friendly policies would bode well for the city's economic growth potential over the medium term. However, we note that this is merely a scenario, and that it is not confirmed that Uribe will even compete for the post.
