In a further development which reinforces the still fragile state of social stability in Peru, workers at at Doe Run Peru's diversified metal smelter at La Oroya blocked access to a key highway in mid-June. Thousands of workers placed boulders and tree trunks across sections of Highway 20, a prime east-to-west road in the Andean nation.
