June 2010 | Risk SummaryBolivia's lower house of Congress approved a law in early June that will give indigenous communities throughout the country the right to administer their own justice systems. According to La Paz, the measure is intended to allow groups to settle disputes in accordance with their own cultural values. Opponents to the law claim that the measure will only lead to mob rule, having pointed to an incident in May in which four police officers were killed by an Andean clan in the name of indigenous justice.
