Criticism of the Haitian government over its handling of the response to January's devastating earthquake has gathered pace, with protests taking place in the capital Port-au-Prince on May 10. The demonstrations, which were called by opposition groups, focused on the composition of the Interim Commission for Haiti's Reconstruction, the body charged with dispersing the massive international relief funds flowing into the country. The commission is to be made up of an equal number of foreign and Haitian members, leading to accusations that it violates the island's sovereignty.
