Serra Woos Potential Coalition Partners

Centre-right opposition candidate for October's presidential election, José Serra (PSDB), has begun to reach out to potential coalition candidates in an effort to boost his chances of winning against the ruling PT candidate, Dilma Rousseff, in a second-round run-off on October 31. Serra has expressed a desire to include the PT and the Partido Verde in any future government, and has recently praised the role of the centrist PMDB, the largest party, for its role as a kingmaker in politics. The move comes on the back of increasing tensions between the PT and the PMDB over agreeing to a candidate for the election. A successful charm offensive could ultimately tip sufficient votes behind Serra in a second-round poll to win the presidency.
