Argentina and Peru have resumed ties after 16 years of frosty relations. The relationship between the two countries turned sour in 1995 after Argentina allegedly sold weapons to Ecuador illegally, while the latter was engaged in a conflict with Peru. During a state visit, Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner provided an 'institutional apology and historic reparation' in a bid to strengthen bilateral ties with Peru. Improving relations between the two bodes well for the 'regional profile' sub-category in Argentina's short-term political risk ratings.
