Lugo In The Dark
March 2010 | Ratings UpdateParaguayan President Fernando Lugo has ordered all ornamental lights in the presidential palace to be switched off and called for state agencies to save energy in an effort to conserve power as blackouts continue across the country. Electricity demand has grown 50% in six years, placing heavy pressure on the country's dilapidated energy infrastructure. Indeed, with officials from the state power agency warning that modernisation work on the national power grid will take at least three years to complete, we caution that another wave of blackouts is only a matter of time, likely further increasing hostility towards the Lugo
