Political Risk Improving

February 2010 | Ratings Update

Our short- and long-term political risk ratings for Honduras have improved this month, after Porfirio 'Pepe' Lobo Sosa took was inaugurated as the country's new president in late January. With the election and inauguration passing without significant public unrest, we have raised the social stability component of our short-term ratings. The outlook for policy continuity in our structural ratings has also been boosted, with the new administration's business-friendly stance likely to lead to a more sustainable policy trajectory than the interventionist and populist stance of Lobo Sosa's predecessor.
