Piñera Invites In CPDFebruary 2010 | Ratings Update
President-elect Sebastián Piñera has invited members of the outgoing Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia (CPD) coalition to join his centre-right government when it takes office in March. We believe Piñera's move marks the latest stage in his efforts to separate his upcoming tenure from the country's last centre-right government under the leadership of Augusto Pinochet. However, with CPD leaders already refusing Piñera's offer, and the Concertación likely to play up its leftist credentials in opposition, we see little scope for Piñera to fulfil his expressed aim of creating a national unity government.
