Major Challenges Persist After The Election

While the successful election of Porfirio Lobos on November 29 is an important step towards resolving Honduras's five-month old political crisis, we caution that concerns over legitimising June's military coup could endanger the country's re-integration into the international community. Although Lobos has expressed his willingness to build broad consensus in his government, congressional and supreme court hard-liners could jeopardise efforts to restore political normalcy for some time to come.
