Calderón Support High After LyF Takeover

President Felipe Calderón appears to have weathered the fallout from the takeover of electricity provider Luz y Fuerza del Centro with his popularity largely in tact. The calculated move to liquidate the company while at the same time offering attractive compensation packages to workers appears to have been accepted by a large proportion of the company's workforce, and widely supported by many parts of the population. However, Calderón was also helped by the significant lack of support from the three major political parties for the electrical workers union, suggesting he will be unable to carry out a similar move against other, more powerful unions in the education and oil and gas sectors of the economy.
