Correa Losing Popular Support
November 2009 | Ratings UpdatePresident Rafael Correa's popularity took a significant turn for the worse in October, according to a recent Cedatos / Gallup opinion poll, which showed the president's approval dropping to 44%, from 49% in September and 51% in August. Given that this drop took place before the energy crisis hit in early November, it paints an ominous picture of how Ecuadoreans are responding to Correa's economic policies, suggesting that without a significant turnaround in the economy the president's disapproval rating (up to 49% in October from 44% the previous month, according to the same poll) will continue rising.
