Michiletti Lifts Ban On Protests
October 2009 | Risk SummaryHonduras's interim president, Roberto Micheletti, announced on October 5 that the government will withdraw a ban on protests and restore civil liberaties in the country. Earlier, a ban was imposed on protest marches, along with curfews in an effort to stop supporters of deposed president Manuel Zelaya from protesting on the streets. The ban imposed on September 27 barred rights of association, travel and expression in the country, and as such their removal helps ease political tensions somewhat.
