IDB Funding To Help Alleviate Fiscal Pain
October 2009 | Risk SummaryProposed changes to the constitution of the Dominican Republic regarding the abolition of rights to abortion have caused outrage from both human rights organisations and medical organisations. While the proposed changes, which include an article regarding the 'inviolability of life from conception to death', may well have a good deal of domestic support, Amnesty International has stated if this leads to an outright ban on abortion it would likely increase maternal mortality rates, a similar argument employed by the Dominican Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists.
